Selenium is an essential trace mineral that assists in the protection of the body's cells. In low concentrations selenium has a role in the antioxidant systems and supports healthy immune function. Antioxidant vitamins E and C combined with selenium, act as powerful free radical scavengers to help maintain a healthy heart, liver, pancreas and cardiovascular system. Selenium, an essential biological trace element, is an integral component of several enzymes including glutathione perioxidase. The powerful anti oxidant glutathione peroxidase is largely dependant on adequate selenium.
